DroneShield releases DroneCannon Remote Weapon (RW) TM

DroneShield announced today the release of their newest product the DroneCannon Remote Weapon (RW).

Historically, DroneShield has focused on “soft kill” counterdrone solutions, which means that DroneShield’s products interdict drones through technological interference rather than physical kinetic impact. Military users around the world recognise that “soft kill” drone defences are particularly effective, however, they already have in service “hard kill” systems that are not drone defence-focused (a “hard kill” system is a conventional kinetic weapon that affects its target by physical impact, through bullets and other projectiles). User feedback is that many global militaries are seeking “soft kill” solutions that integrate with their existing “hard kill” systems.

DARPA announce the Accelerated Molecular Discovery (AMD) program

DARPA announced in October the launch of the Accelerated Molecular Discovery (AMD) program, which aims to develop new, AI-based systematic approaches that increase the pace of discovery and optimization of high-performance molecules. A Proposers Day webinar describing the goals of the program is scheduled for Oct.18, 2018. Details are available here: https://go.usa.gov/xPk5j

“The ultimate goal of AMD is to speed the time to design, validate, and optimize new molecules with defined properties from several years to a few months, or even several weeks,” said Anne Fischer, program manager in DARPA’s Defense Sciences Office. “We aim to develop the AI tools, models and experimental systems to enable autonomous design of molecules to quickly meet DoD needs.”

Oxford Nanopore releases ‘Rev D’ flow cells, enabling increase in data yields

Oxford Nanopore has released a new version of MinION and GridION flow cells that include the new 'Rev D’ ASIC. The new release extends the amount of time that flow cells can be used for DNA sequencing or RNA sequencing, increasing the overall yields of DNA sequence data to as much as 30 Gb per flow cell (at this performance, the equivalent of ~10X human genome for $500*).

The amount of sequence data that can be generated with a single flow cell has increased dramatically since the launch of nanopore sequencing technology.
