Elevated levels of toxic gas

Fire crews detected elevated levels of hydrogen sulphide after smoke filled a building at one of the country's largest meat processing plants. A Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) spokesperson said the building was found full of smoke following an automatic alarm activation. Fires crews detected the gas after containing the fire and used fans to disperse it. Hydrogen sulphide levels were confirmed as reduced before the site was handed back to management.  The incident lasted nearly five hours.
