Teen with homemade explosives

What started as a firework citation turned into a bomb squad investigation after police say they discovered a teen had at least one homemade explosive and variety of other suspicious items. Officers were called to the Rockrimmon area on a shots fired call and found a man in the Hewlett Packard parking lot lighting what looked like fireworks.

“As the officers investigated and began gathering information from this 18-year-old male to issue a citation for the fireworks violation, they observed a homemade explosive device that had evidence of attempting to be lit, as well as blasting caps,” a CSPD lieutenant said. The Regional Explosive Unit was immediately requested.

“During the course of interview with the suspect, it was determined that he had a variety of explosive materials at his residence, in addition to the items located by officers on scene,” the lieutenant said. The teen was taken into custody and has been identified as Andrew Reid. The bomb squad is currently working to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s home. The investigation is ongoing.
