Chemical Plant Fire
French authorities declared an urgent security and health emergency on August 2nd, when a fire broke out at a dangerous industrial site in eastern France. Official authorities called on 30,000 people to stay in their homes immediately. The damaged facility is in the municipality of Gandrange, which is classified as a highly dangerous industrial zone. Emergency services deployed one hundred firefighters supported using fifty specialized vehicles, whilst field crews worked to prevent the fire expanding toward adjacent high-risk industrial facilities. Crews extinguished the fire the same day.
