‘Safe’ ship kills

On August 14th, 10 workers died from exposure to a toxic gas whilst undertaking the dismantling of a ship at a recycling facility. The vessel had been certified as safe for recycling by four different government bodies as well as a state-appointed private safety agency, and the dismantling process officially approved. At the time of the incident, it was unknown what toxic substance caused the deaths, subsequently an inquiry committee established by the Ministry of Industries confirmed the cause of death to be hydrogen sulphide.
