Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced charges filed against two men arrested in connection with incendiary devices found in Salt Lake City and at a Magna residence they share. Charged are Adeeb Nasir, 58, a Pakistan-born U.S. citizen, and Adil Justice Ahme Nasir, 31, a Utah native.

Bomb squad investigators from the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Unified Police Department were called to a Salt Lake City scene to investigate a possible incendiary device found under a news media van. They determined the device “was real, had been placed underneath a news media vehicle parked next to an occupied building, and had been lit but failed to function as designed,” say nearly identical arrest documents for the Nasirs.

The FBI took over the investigation and served a warrant to search the residence with assistance from the two bomb squads. The Nasirs were taken into custody.  “During the clearing operations, investigators located two hoax weapons of mass destruction inside the residence, along with two firearms and illegal narcotics,” the arrest documents say.

“While being questioned about the devices, both suspects stated that the devices were real. This caused all law enforcement personnel executing the warrant to evacuate the residence and initiate disposal procedures.”

The newly filed charges relate only to the first part of the investigation.
