L3 Sonoma EO announced today that it has been named as a prime contractor on the Chemical Surface Detector (CSD) contract by the Joint Project Manager for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Contamination Avoidance (JPM NBCCA) within the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD).
L3 Sonoma EO announced today that it has been named as a prime contractor on the CSD by JPEO CBD. The award is for the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase of the overall CSD program. L3 Sonoma EO, along with partner companies Spectral Sensor Solutions, LLC (S3) and L2 Defense, Inc., will perform on this two-year program consisting of laboratory and final prototypes.
Utilizing S3’s extensive knowledge and experience with Laser Interrogation of Surface Agents (LISA) technology in a fielded, supportable line replaceable unit format, L3 Sonoma EO will mature the previously developed Joint Contaminated Surface Detector (JCSD)-based system for the CSD. LISA technology successfully demonstrates high-speed, on-the-move detection and identification of chemicals on surfaces.
“The L3 Sonoma EO team is extremely pleased to support this important program, which will reduce risk to soldiers on the battlefield,” said Doug Manfredi, General Manager of L3 Sonoma EO. “The CSD will provide a near real-time, on-the-move capability to detect and identify chemical warfare agents (CWAs), non-traditional agents (NTAs) and toxic industrial chemicals (TICs).”
The system’s detection/identification function will be designed to continually interrogate the surface, provide data for processing and apply algorithms to the data to detect and identify, in real time, any contaminant that may be present. When fielded, the CSD will be a leap forward in on-the-move chemical detection capability for the U.S. Army.
