14 die from Ebola outbreak in Uganda
Kampala - Ugandan officials and representatives from the WHO last night confirmed that the 14 people to have died recently from seperate mysterious illnesses in the district of Kibale all died from the same strain of the Ebola virus.
Initial diagnoses overlooked the possibility of an Ebola virus infection due to a lack of traditional symptoms. Whilst patients displayed fevers and vomiting, according to the Ugandan Health Ministry, they did not display evidence of heamorrhaging. Tests performed in subsequent weeks however have confirmed an Ebola outbreak.
A national emergency taskforce has been deployed to restrict the spread of the virus, for which there is currently no vaccine.
A first responder, who was treating the initial patients, is among the dead.
