The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI, Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse) announced on 19 August that the agency has signed an agreement with Terma for an AI-supported command and control system for protection against drones. The system will link sensors across Denmark and provide the armed forces and other authorities with a shared real-time situational picture of drone activity.
"We are now bringing together drone surveillance from across the country in real time so that we can respond effectively to potential threats," says Denmark's Minister of Defence Jeppe Bruus in FMI's press release.
According to Terma, the Danish armed forces, civilian authorities and critical infrastructure operators already have sensors deployed at various locations. However, the information is currently managed in separate systems. The new solution is intended to bring this information together and make it available for tactical decision-making at both local and central level.
The system is built on Terma Helion, a Danish-controlled data architecture spanning multiple operational domains. Helion is designed to connect existing and future sensors and integrate geographically dispersed systems.
The solution also includes the FACE platform from OSL Technology, which became part of Terma in 2025. According to Terma, FACE collects and processes information from the company's radar and surveillance systems, as well as sensors and countermeasures from other suppliers. AI is used to process, classify and prioritise sensor data.
Terma also points to OSL Technology's previous experience in this field. Since 2019, the company has been the main supplier and systems integrator for Heathrow Airport's counter-drone system. It also supplies similar systems to the Norwegian air bases Ørland and Evenes (both in central Norway) under a multi-year framework agreement with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA, Forsvarsmateriell).
The system is intended to give Denmark national control over operational sensor data, while allowing new technology from multiple suppliers to be integrated. New sensors, locations and countermeasures are to be added over time. The solution is intended for use at, among other things, military installations, airports, ports, energy facilities, government buildings and other critical infrastructure.
Neither FMI nor Terma has disclosed the value of the contract or when the system is expected to become operational.
