Jonathan (Jon) Szalajda is the former Deputy Director of the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL), a division of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). During his tenure at NIOSH, Jon served in various leadership capacities, including overseeing the development of NIOSH’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) respirator standards. With over 40 years of experience in respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), Jon is currently a member of the National Fire Protection Association Respiratory Protection Technical Committees. He also serves as the Chairman of the American Society for Testing and Materials F23.65 committee on Respiratory Protection and is a past president of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Respiratory Protection Committee. Jon is the chair of the Americas Section of the International Society of Respiratory Protection. He holds a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State and MS degrees in engineering from both George Washington University and the University of Pittsburgh.
