# Ammunition explosion

 Written on 02 August 2026.

Scorching temperatures in early August caused the explosion of an ammunition depot at Camp Taji in Iraq. The Iraqi MOD released a statement saying that severe temperatures resulted in a fire breaking out inside the weapons and ammo storage facility, which in turn lead to stored explosives and projectiles exploding. Civil Defense units were dispatched quickly to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to other depots. No immediate injuries or deaths were reported.
