# 3,500 litres of ammonia

 Written on 14 August 2026.

A leak of 3,500 litres of anhydrous ammonia at a turkey and poultry slaughterhouse in Suffolk, UK, had 10 crews from around the county in attendance. Upon arrival, the leak from ruptured pipeline within a plant room was found. Site engineers worked to isolate the leak while firefighters established specialist monitoring, breathing apparatus and decontamination arrangements. During the operation the ammonia levels decreased significantly, and the response scaled down to two fire appliances.
