# Slip and burn

 Written on 05 December 2025.

Seven patients, including two adults and five children, were rushed to a Christchurch Hospital following a chemical burns incident at a childcare facility. Reporting states that a steriliser chemical was mistaken for detergent and used on a children’s slip and slide, resulting in the children receiving varying degrees of chemical burns, one person was said to be in a serious condition and six in a moderate condition. Since the incident enforcement action has been taken against the daycare by WorkSafe, New Zealand’s primary work health and safety regulator.
