# Rat poison on fruit

 Written on 15 February 2026.

Two fruit vendors in Mumbai were arrested after a video appeared to show them applying rat poison to fruit that they intended to sell. The customer who saw the act and recorded it reported the incident to police, who subsequently recovered a substance identified as Ratol, a commercially available rat-killing product containing toxic chemicals such as yellow phosphorus, from the vendors' roadside stall. According to the police, the vendors admitted to using the substance to deter rats from damaging their stock overnight.
