#  Ammonia gas leak

An ammonia gas leak was reported on June 21 at a private seafood processing and export facility in Tiruvallur district. The incident reportedly occurred during routine industrial operations, resulting in the exposure of workers present at the site.  The National Disaster Response Force CBRN Battalion was deployed to the incident. Those exposed presented with symptoms consistent with ammonia inhalation, including breathlessness, irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract, coughing, chest discomfort, and respiratory distress. According to a bulletin about the incident, 77 individuals were reported affected, eight of which later died. The exact cause of the leak is currently under investigation.
Most recent reporting on June 30, put the death toll now at 16 people.
