#  Truck explosion

The death toll from a truck explosion on a highway in Chile's capital, Santiago, has risen to 12, the Chilean Ministry of Health said on Wednesday 25th Feb.

Health authorities confirmed the toll, adding that nine people remain hospitalized, five of whom are in critical condition.

The explosion occurred on Feb. 19 when a truck transporting liquefied gas crashed into the guardrails. At least 50 vehicles in the incident, while the fireball generated from the gas also spread to nearby buildings. The explosion from the crash was felt within a radius of about 150 to 200 meter and sent a dense column of smoke visible from many parts of the capital

at the intersection of General Velásquez Avenue and Route 5 North in the Renca district after the driver allegedly lost control, La Nacion reported, citing General Víctor Vielma, Director of Traffic, Highways, and Road Safety for the Carabineros.
