# Self-storage hazmat

 Written on 01 October 2025.

The Sarasota County Fire Department was called to a self-storage facility in Venice Thursday afternoon when a 911 caller reported finding two Mason jars filled with cyanide.

County spokeswoman Sara Nealeigh told ABC7 the material was reported to be sealed containers of cyanide, but the actual substance could not be confirmed.

Fire department crews secured the scene at the facility on Jacaranda Boulevard and safely disposed of the material, Nealeigh said. There were no injuries and there was no threat to the community.
