# Hazmat Hoarding

 Written on 05 June 2026.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) responded to a “hoarding situation” in North Branford where a fire had compromised chemicals and fuel and turned into a hazmat situation. Emergency response and cleanup crews discovered a backyard filled with gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oil, pool chemicals, chlorine products and propane tanks. Several propane tanks were damaged and others that underwent boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE). No reports mention if the chlorine products became engulfed and caused any issues.
