# 19 million eggs

 Written on 14 August 2026.

The FDA has upgraded a recall of nearly 19.1 million eggs to its highest risk category as health officials investigate a multistate Salmonella outbreak. The new classification of the Midwest Poultry Services recall is now Class I, meaning exposure to the product could cause serious health consequences or death. The recall is tied to an ongoing Salmonella investigation involving 98 illnesses in 17 states, including 26 hospitalizations. No deaths have yet been reported.
