## [New DASA Competition Launched: Biosensing Across Wide Areas](https://cbrneworld.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1576:new-dasa-competition-launched-biosensing-across-wide-areas&catid=2)

 Written on 15 April 2020.

[This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/competition-biosensing-across-wide-areas) is seeking proposals for innovative technologies that provide an improved way to rapidly detect and locate hazardous biological agents in the field for the benefit of defence and security operations.

Please note this is a Phase 2 competition of a multi-phase theme. It is not compulsory to have been involved in Phase 1 to apply. You should however make yourself aware of the [previous competition](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/competition-summary-biosensing-across-wide-areas/competition-document-biosensing-across-wide-areas) and the [proposals we funded](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accelerator-funded-contracts/accelerator-funded-contracts-1-april-2018-to-31-march-2019#biosensing-across-wide-areas).

Proposals will need to deliver a higher level of maturity than achieved in Phase 1. We expect the starting [Technology Readiness Level (TRL)](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/defence-and-security-accelerator-terms-and-conditions-and-contract-guidance#what-dasa-funds) of the innovation to be TRL 3. By the end of the project, we expect the innovation to be sufficiently developed to achieve approximately TRL 4 – 5.

£700k is available to fund Phase 2, which closes for submissions on Monday 1 June 2020 at midday BST.

 Written on 11 October 2019.

Wiranto, Indonesia's current security minsiter, and former military chief and ex-presidential candidate, was getting out of a car in a town square in Banten province when he was attacked by a man who is reported to have carried out the attack after being exposed to IS Radicalism.

Wiranto, 72, suffered "two deep wounds" to his stomach but is in a stable condition. A police officer and two other people were injured, while two suspects, a man and a woman, were arrested. The suspects are believed to be part of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) network, an organisation who claim to be behind some of the worst attacks in Indonesia - the world's most populous Muslim nation - in recent years, including an attack on a church in 2018, which left 13 dead.

Stanis Riyanta, a Jakarta-based terrorism expert, warned the attack could build momentum for others ahead of President Joko Widodo beginning a second term next week, after he was re-elected in April. "This is a warning for law enforcers that other terrorist cells could carry out attacks ahead of the 20 October inauguration," he told the BBC.
