#  World Uranium Bank Officially Open

On December 10 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recived the second, and last, shipment of low-enriched uranium (LEU) at a purpose-built facility in Kazakhstan housing the IAEA LEU Bank, a purpose built facility to provide assurance to countries about the supply of nuclear fuel.

The IAEA LEU Bank holds enough energy to power a large city for three years, and serves as a back-up fuel supply for countries that rely on nuclear power. The facility stores 90 tonnes of low enriched uranium, in case a country is unable to get its nuclear fuel on the open market or by any other means.
