#  SIGA discusses the eradication of smallpox and emphasizes the need for the EU to prepare for a changing world

SIGA recently published an article in The Parliament magazine talking about how as the EU develops its medical countermeasures and stockpiling strategy, it is vital to include both vaccines and antivirals to quickly respond to future outbreaks. SIGA explores why smallpox still poses a danger and outlines a strategic roadmap for strengthening global biodefense. By learning from history, embracing a dual approach leveraging antivirals alongside vaccines, and fostering comprehensive and coordinated preparedness, we can reinforce our defenses and better prepare against future biological threats.
