Written by Gwyn Winfield on 24 April 2017.

Russia's Federal Administration for the Safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons said on its website that it had destroyed nearly all of its CWA stockpile. \\"In total, 39,002.86 tonnes, 97.6% of the overall chemical weapon stockpiles, have been destroyed.\\" As reported, Russia has finalized disposal of chemical weapons at six out of seven chemical arms disposal facilities. The disposal works are currently ongoing at one facility in Udmurtia's Kizner.

Russian presidential envoy to the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich, who is the head of the state commission for the disposal of chemical weapons, told President Vladimir Putin earlier that the disposal of chemical weapons in Russia was to be completed in 2017. The director of the Federal Administration for the Safe Storage and Destruction of Chemical Weapons, Col. Gen. Valery Kapashin, told Interfax that the disposal works would be finalized no later than October 2017.
