# NIST Adds New ‘Fingerprints’ to Chemical Identification Database

Written by Gwyn Winfield on 17 June 2020.

The latest release of the NIST Mass Spectral Library, which includes the [NIST ](https://www.nist.gov/programs-projects/nist20-updates-nist-tandem-and-electron-ionization-spectral-libraries?utm_source=miragenews&utm_medium=miragenews&utm_campaign=news#tand)[Tandem Mass Spectral Library](https://www.nist.gov/programs-projects/nist20-updates-nist-tandem-and-electron-ionization-spectral-libraries?utm_source=miragenews&utm_medium=miragenews&utm_campaign=news#tand) and [NIST/EPA/NIH Mass Spectral Library](https://www.nist.gov/programs-projects/nist20-updates-nist-tandem-and-electron-ionization-spectral-libraries?utm_source=miragenews&utm_medium=miragenews&utm_campaign=news#ei) and NIST GC Retention Index Database greatly increases the number of compounds and spectra since the 2017 version. The new versions, NIST20, [are available from distributors](https://chemdata.nist.gov/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=chemdata:distributors) for integration with existing instrumentation.

The NIST20 release includes:
