Written by CBRNe World Staff on 25 September 2018.

Chemring Sensors and Electronic Systems and Smiths Detection have each won a potential 10-year contract from the U.S. Army to develop platforms designed to detect aerosols, threat vapors and other chemical agents.

According to FedBizOpps, Chemring received a potential $838.5M contract and Smiths Detection a potential $667.3M contract under the XM12 Aerosol & Vapor Chemical Agent Detector program (AVCAD).

Under the AVCAD programme, the contractors will develop a system with a wireless alarm capability that will work to identify and report chemical hazards in support of dismounted and mounted reconnaissance, decontamination, base defense, monitoring and unmasking missions of the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marine Corps.
