#  3M's M61 ordered by US Army

The M61 is a lightweight canister that uses advanced filter technology and is an integral part of the new M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask (JSGPM) and companion M51 Combat Vehicle Mask, which are fielded to all branches of U.S. armed services as needed.

The 3M M61 canister is lighter weight than its predecessor and is designed to protect troops against a wide range of respiratory threats beyond conventional military hazards. This includes toxic industrial chemicals and gases that troops could be exposed to during counterterror and natural-disaster response missions. 3M Canada will manufacture the 3M M61 canisters.

This order is valued at over $3 million and was awarded under an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract issued in December 2011. Deliveries under this order are scheduled to be completed by February 2015. In total, the IDIQ contract has potential value of over $100 million based on a seven-year performance period.
