Professor David Crouch - CHAIR

Professor David Crouch has an extensive background in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) remediation processes and technologies, having worked with numerous international agencies and the private sector. He has worked in Europe, North America, the Far East, Middle East and Asia Pacific on CBRN remediation programs and delivered training to various international agencies on CBRN related issues. Ranging from anthrax remediation operations in Turkey, to nuclear decommissioning programs in the United Kingdom and United States. 

A professional chemist, with more than 30 years’ experience in the fields of materials science, respiratory protection and CBRN decontamination science, David is a chartered chemist, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. A Fellow of the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and is also a member of Institute of Decontamination Science (MIDSc) and Society for Radiological Protection (MSRP).  Supporting the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) as a Senior Associate Fellow in Global WMD Issues and nuclear security & non-proliferation, He is also a visiting professor at Cranfield University (Defence & Security) and is the former chairman of CBRN-UK (2016-2019), the UK industry’s specialist CBRN interest group. A member of the Emergency Planning Society - CBRN Professional Working Group, David also represents British Standards Institute on the national PH/004 (Respiratory Protection) & CBRN (BS8468) standard committees. As well as internationally on the ISO TC94 SC15 Working Group 7 CBRN committee. As former convener of CEN Technical Committee 391 - Working Group 2 (CBRNe) and an international advisor to the Resilience Advisor Network (RAN), David supports societal & citizen security and safety stakeholders to help ensure preparedness, cooperation, and a culture of security in the CBRN domain.
