Lieutenant Colonel Espen Jargren

Lieutenant Colonel Espen Jargren has had a long and varied career since he joined the Norwegian Military College of Civil Engineering in 1989. After getting his degree in civil engineering, he served as platoon leader in a heavy construction company of the engineer battalion, moving on a year later to Airfield Damage Repair at Bodø Main Air Station. After two years’ studies at the Army War Academy, Lt Col Jargren returned to the Military College to serve as Class Commander, project officer and head of department. Lt Col Jargren then spent four years in the Engineer Battalion, as 2CO in the heavy construction company, commander of the light engineer and boat company, and finally commander of the armored engineer company. His first international deployment, as Chief Engineer with the Norwegian Task Force in Kosovo, was followed by three more years at the Euro NATO Training Engineer Center in Germany (now CoE Military Engineering), where he served as head of the Mines, Demolition and Recce department.
Since 2007, Lt Col Jargren has worked at the Norwegian Defence CBRN & Environmental Protection School, first as a staff officer with the rank of major, and since 2017 as Commander of the school. During this period, he was also elected for Army Staff College, and have participated throughout the years in a number of Nordic, NATO, EDA and Framework Nation Defence working groups.
