Mark van Barreveld
Mark van Barreveld joined Brandweer Amsterdam-Amstelland in 2006 as a crisismanagement advisor, responsible for training inter-agency command teams, after working as an instructor for Rotterdam’s Falck Risc. As a Programme Manager, Mark is currently working on the realisation of a public-private fire and rescue service for the Port of Amsterdam on behalf of Brandweer Amsterdam-Amstelland, which is set to be operational in Q1 2020. Besides working as a Programme Manager Mark is deployed as an operational On Scene and Incident Commander as of 2011 in the city of Amsterdam. As capital city of the Netherlands, Amsterdam has been the subject of terrorist threat just as other major european cities and as a result Brandweer Amsterdam-Amstelland has stepped up its level of preparation on Terrorism response in recent years. Although Amsterdam has not been hit yet by a Major Terrorist incident, Brandweer Amsterdam-Amstelland does deal with a number of violent crime and mental health incidents on a regular basis which also place a changing demand on the fire & and rescue service.
