Cody Zane is a doctoral candidate in the Fiber and Polymer Science Program at NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, working in the Textile Protection and Comfort Center.
In 2015 and 2017 he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Polymer and Color Chemistry and Textile Chemistry, respectively, from the Wilson College of Textiles. Through his long tenure at NC State Cody learned that compassion is an important trait in an academic and a leader. Compassion is his driving force to research firefighter gear, to help firefighters better protect their communities.
Furthermore, he takes the compassion he learned from his mentors and applies it outside the lab to better his own academic community by talking about graduate student mental health and working to “stop the stigma” on his campus.
